Friday, October 6, 2017 @ 7:30 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave.  If you enjoy the aquarium hobby, want to learn more about your fish and you want to have access to new species and new varieties, join us once a month for a very fishy experience.   Non-members, visitors and guests are always welcome. No cost to attend. Family friendly. Get Fishy!

  • Important     notice:  This meeting will be held I th "Great Hall" which     is on the South side of the building.  The usual room has another     meeting scheduled for Friday, Go to the South West Corner to find us.
  • Our guest speaker     will be our own Dave Schieltz who will be speaking on compatibility and     keeping different species in your tank. 
  • We will have a mini auction     of fish, plants and other fish related items.  
  • Our Bowl Show categories for     October will be: 
        1. Oddballs. Any fish not listed elsewhere; examples: Anableps, Archers,     Butterfly Fish, Eels Halfbeaks, Elephant noses, Knife Fish, Lungfish,     and Mudskippers. Freaks, mutations, and hybrids are not included. Shown as     singles or pairs.
        2. Dwarf Cichlids. Includes Apistogramma, Nannacara, Kribs, Rams, other     small cichlids of similar disposition. Shown in pairs.
        3. Open class, bring your best to show!

Friday, Sepotember 1, 2017 @ 7:30 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave.  If you enjoy the aquarium hobby, want to learn more about your fish and you want to have access to new species and new varieties, join us once a month for a very fishy experience.   Non-members, visitors and guests are always welcome. No cost to attend. Family friendly. Get Fishy!

  • Our guest speaker     will be our own Mike Wise, speaking on Collecting on the Rio Napo. Mike Wise is a     frequent speaker nationally and is a recognized expert on fish and fish     keeping topics.   On my month-long 2012 trip to the Amazon I spent 10     days exploring the length of the Rio Napo in Peru. This river is rarely     visited by tourists nor commercial fish collectors. My friends and I were     able to collect in new locations where we found several new and rare fish     species.
  • We     will have a mini auction of fish, plants and other fish related     items.  
  • Our     Bowl Show categories for September will be include
       
        1. Native Fish. Fish native to the U.S., such as Bass, Sunfish, Minnows,     Catfish, Killies, the Texas Cichlid, wild Sail-fin Mollies (P. Iatipinna),     and Mosquito Pish.
        Does not include Carp, Brown Trout or other imported fishes. Fish shown     must be the native wild types, not hybrids. Shown in pairs, large species     may be shown alone.
       
        2. All Other Non-Fish Aquarium Animals. Amphibians (frogs, newts,     salamanders), Lizards, Turtles and any other form of aquatic or     semi-aquatic life that is not a fish or an invertebrate.
       
        3. Open class, bring your best to show!

Event Open to Members and Their Guests

July picnic is scheduled for Saturday, July 15th, 2017.  Tentative location is (available to member's only) (Tory Brown's hide-a-way).   Food at 1:00.  RSVP requested so we can plan.   I suggest that you come up early, there are hiking trails, biking trails, horse trails, off-roading and scenic drives everywhere around the cabin.  Hike, come back to the cabin to eat, rest and go hike again.  Child and dog friendly, bring everyone.  Lots of entertainment for the younger set.   Elevation is about 8,800', it will be cool with lots of tall pines for shade.  Large deck for lounging and conversation.  If fire restrictions allow we will have a fire pit going for Samoas The drinking water is great! Only about 6 miles from Mt. Evans.  Nearby Public shooting range.   Only 1 hour drive from SouthEast Denver, mostly paved, last mile is good gravel road.  Make a day of it!  Fun in the Mountains!

Friday, June 2,  2017 @ 7:30 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave.  If you enjoy the aquarium hobby, want to learn more about your fish and you want to have access to new species and new varieties, join us once a month for a very fishy experience.   Non-members, visitors and guests are always welcome. ·         Our guest speaker will be Mr. Robert Grauer.   He will be speaking on Care and Breeding of African Cichlids!   Robert has been involved in the aquarium hobby for almost 50 years ,with everything from being a hobbyist, importer, wholesaler and now a hobbyist again. He currently maintains 85 tanks, varying in size from 5-125 gallons. His tanks are filled with predominantly African Cichlids from the Lakes of Tanganyika, Malawi and Victoria as well as a few streams, ditches and wherever water can be found. Be sure to attend, this will be a great presentation.

  • We     will have a mini auction of fish, plants and other fish related     items.  

·         Our Bowl Show categories for June are:  1. Characins and Tetras. Neon’s, Serpaes, Black Tetra, Flame Tetra, Piranha, Silver Dollars,
Anostomus, Leporinus, Metynnis, Headstanders, etc. Hatchets, Headstanders and Pencil Fish are classified as non-characins by some, but are included in this class. Shown in twos, with a divider, if necessary.
2. Barbs. All species of the genera barbus, Barbodes, Capoeta and Puntius.
Shown in pairs or twos.     3. Open class, bring your best to show!

  • Friday,     August 4, Monthly meetings of the Colorado Aquarium Society, back to     normal schedule of First Friday.  July is a picnic, see following.

·         July picnic is scheduled for Saturday, July 15th, 2017.  Location is 46 Timber Trail, Idaho Springs, CO 80452 (google map it) (Tory Brown's hide-a-way).   Food at 1:00.  We will provide main dish, sides,beverages, plates, utensils, etc.  RSVP requested so we can plan.   I suggest that you come up early, there are hiking trails, biking trails, horse trails, off-roading and scenic drives everywhere around the cabin.  Hike, come back to the cabin to eat, rest, socialize, let the kids nap, then go hike again.  Child and dog friendly, bring everyone.   Elevation is about 9,800', it will be cool with lots of tall pines and aspens for shade, bring a jacket.  Large deck for lounging and conversation.  If fire restrictions allow we will have a fire pit going for Samoas.  The drinking water is great, no chemical additives and it is "unused" water! Only about 6 miles from Mt. Evans.  Nearby Public shooting range.   Only 1 hour drive from SouthEast Aurora, mostly paved, last mile is good gravel road.  Make a day of it, or Bring a sleeping bag and make a weekend of it.  Free souvenir rocks, you pick! ·         Our guest speaker will be Cory McElroy who is the Owner of Aquarium Co-Op which is a retail fish store, ecommerce website and YouTube Channel. He is known for the variety of Puffer Fish he keeps, including the store mascot Murphy the Mbu Puffer. Cory has been keeping puffers for the last 10 years, first of which was a Mbu puffer. Over the years he has kept several different species at the store and helped many hobbyists understand and learn to love freshwater puffers. 

  • We      will have a mini auction of fish, plants and other fish related      items.  

·         Our Bowl Show categories for April:  1. Invertebrates. Snails; Starfish; Anemones; Crabs, Shrimp and other Crustaceans, etc.  2. Sharks and Loaches. Sharks from the Cyprinid Family including the Red-Tailed and Black Shark and loaches from the Cobitis Family including the Kuhli and Weather loaches and members of the genus Botia. Singles or pairs may be shown.  3. Open class, bring your best to show!

    Bowl Show

    Each Bowl Show has two pre-determined classes and one open class.

    Remember:  Only Flat Sided Containers will be accepted.

    • Minnows (non-native, Cyprinidae). Danios (zebras, pearl, spotted, etc.), Rasboras, and White Clouds. Shown in pairs.
    • Corydoras and related genera (Brochis & Aspidoras). Pairs or two fish per entry.

    Notice of meeting of the Colorado Aquarium Society, Friday, January 6, 2017 !

    Friday, January  6, 2017 @ 7:30 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave. Tell your friends! If you enjoy the aquarium hobby, want to learn more about your fish and you want to have access to new species and new varieties, join us once a month for a very fishy experience.
    Non-members, visitors and guests are always welcome. No cost to attend. Family friendly. Get Fishy!

    ·         Our guest speaker will be Mr. Mike Wise.  "Apistograma breeding for fun and profit".  Mr. Wise is a world recognized authority on fishkeeping and Apistogramas.  He will be sharing his extensive knowledge with us.   This is a meeting you can't miss!

    • We      will have a mini auction of fish, plants and other fish related      items.
